HOW DID SUBATOMIC INNOVATION & DESIGN BECOME WHAT IT IS TODAY?

I have spent most of my adult life learning and teaching myself new skills. I have also spent a considerable amount of time in multiple industries to feed my thirst for knowledge. Starting from the remote areas of Western Australia in mining as a drillers offsider or field assistant, using tractors, driving trucks or using rigs I learned of the power in lengthy work days and achieved results from hard work.

From learning to DJ at age 17, I quickly took to thinking Djing other peoples music wasn't enough, so I wanted to make the music, that was on the records I was buying. From there I taught myself to make music. I also spent a winter at TAFE learning Video Production which at the time I didn't know would be a future endeavor. My djing career took off in Western Australia after playing at most of the nightclubs, I then moved into the outdoor events scene. After wanting to then further this passion I moved into wanting to host the events that I was going to. After feeling like Western Australia had been done, I wanted to move to the big smoke and I drove across the country via Darwin to Melbourne.

Like the evolution of all my passions I then took to teaching myself all the aspects of hosting events, from lighting, lazers, sound systems and operating all of it. Especially learning all the different tech that operated all the systems.

After a span of a decade I had honed these interests to the more creative side of events and thus started a side business of making art and stages for events. Soon enough I was being paid by some of the biggest festivals in the country to create mainstage designs and build them. This taught me the crafts of 3d computer designing, applying for projects including permits, managing teams of people and then I went on to become a festival’s “national arts coordinator”. In this role I managed the festivals performers, art installations and the process of receiving and approving applications. I also became proficient in social media (which I was no stranger to from my years of promoting myself as a dj and producer).

Amid these years of developing my side business brand I started another business in the transport industry. At it's peak my transport company had 3 trucks and 11 employees. This was the period in my life where I took on the name G-Wiz Transport PTY LTD and G-Wiz events. I learned all aspects of building, in this timeline of 10 years from every tool in a workshop to driving and operating every machine I met, from tractors, prime movers, semi trailers, forklifts, EWPS and the more structural building techniques like scaffolding, rigging and crane work. The power of hydraulics always excites me!

After my mother got really sick from a long battle with Parkinsons until her demise in 2020 I had given away all my businesses and moved to the country. As there wasn't much work in the small town of Nagambie, I tried my hand at arborist work and since I wasn't scared of hard work I learned all about the power of chainsaws and large chippers. Like most people during covid I struggled, but was lucky enough to have two great friends in my regional zone that could visit. It was on my 35th birthday I said to my best mate.

“Lets stop playing music to festivals and start making more mainstream music in the hopes of reaching more people”. It was then that we started the band “Gravity Corporation” which we made about 30 different pop orientated songs, in the time of this period I learned more about mastering audio, instrumentals and vocals. Our 3rd band member Sarah was an opera and Jazz trained vocalist. I thoroughly enjoyed editing vocals and making her harmonies epic.

Living in the country was great for my mental health during covid, but after the death of my mother and the change in my lifestyle I wanted more. Naturally my creative endeavours had been put to sleep for a while, because I was a full time carer. With one remaining truck left from my transport company I decided to build my second tiny home. Prior to that during the festival years I’d repurposed a camper trailer and made a caravan tiny home. With that experience I was ready to transform my existing container truck into a travelling home. It's here that I got an understanding and learnt even more aspects of building such as plumbing, solar power and bathroom construction. Now I live in my 20ft container home on wheels and don't participate in the payments of rent, power bills or water fees. Without these weekly costs I am able to save a lot of money and live quite comfortably within my means. Whilst also choosing to be somewhere I really want to be, usually in summer by creeks or rivers.

I wasn't thrilled until I was learning new things and became companions with Dr Casey Delmara who one day on my farm, decided we could create programs for families. Her career was in the mental health and outdoor education industries, so we formed “Into the Wild Quests”. This was a series of outdoor nature based programs teaching families resilience. I formed great relationships with our tribe of families, teaching skills such as archery or building structures and also bring my talents of music and creativity to the community. I became a role model for younger children and felt the joy in the fact I could pass on knowledge to the next generations. I also reconnected with my skills for graphic design, copy writing and website building. I also nurtured my talents in photography and videography, I had always dabbled in these fields but really focused on creating meaningful retrospective movies after the events. I thoroughly enjoyed working on the audio aspect of making these videos, recording the whole time at the camp, transforming the audio and adding music tracks to the final product.

From the family camps I realized the country life was not socially satisfying enough for me anymore, my exposure to people on camps, had reignited my love for community. Subsequently after the controls of covid I was looking for a way to express my creativity and skills. One day I responded to a request for help at a festival near my farm. A month later I was living in my truck on the festival site for Seven Sisters Festival, who were hosting their first event on the newly acquired property. When I met the owner Lauren Woodman, she was shocked by the amount of skills that I had to offer the festival, given that it was a spiritual and lifestyle based event, my experience was well received and I was inspired by the content of the event. It was a festival of 3000 women, given that I could drive the 3 tractors, help drill the holes for structual poles, build shade sails and do all other aspects of the event I became a useful site crew member during the event.

Unfortunately it rained for 3 days straight before the festival, therefore the many attendees where struct with the painful situation of boggings. I took the initiative immediately of acquiring a hired 4wd and some chains and therefore started unbogging cars. By the end of the festival I had rescued 70 vehicles including retrieving shower blocks where prime mover trucks were stuck, motorhomes, stall holders and the likes. To say it was an experience is an understatement.

Although this is a very brief recollection of my story and history there are many other smaller periods in my life that aren’t listed, like the fact I went back to Drilling in Victoria. Also learning the art of building patios and pergolas, gardening and sustainability and also honing in on spiritual practises like meditation (including making meditation music) and self care practises.

As you can see I have many varied interests but nearly every part includes the fact that I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a passion for learning as much as I can. This is why I have created my website to showcase all the different aspects I’m able to offer businesses and communities.

The great thing is that no matter what I put my mind to I can confidently say I can perform and deliver any task put to me. My super power is that from my wide variety of experience I am highly creative and continuously coming up with new innovative ideas. I love all parts of creation from conception to carrying out the project to the final stages of reflection and post productions. I'm inspired by working with technology systems, machinery, computers and tools where ever possible. I am creating new things everyday and I am devoted to continuing to learn new and exciting methods of expression and art.
